About The Pinhole Surgical Technique Procedure
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST™) is an attractive gum recession treatment option for patients with receding gum tissue. Unlike traditional gum graft surgery, this technique involves using existing gum tissue to recreate the gum line and produces comparable results to a gum graft performed with donor tissue.
The PST procedure does not use a scalpel or sutures. Instead, specially designed surgical tools are used to create a small pinhole above the area with recession. Other tools are then used to loosen the gums and re-position them. Collagen is gently inserted to hold the gums in place so that they cover the area with recession. Most patients typically report little to no discomfort after the procedure and many return to work when they are done!
